Why did I choose the GEA section at the ENSEEIHT? But first of all what is it? What am I planning to do for a living? All these questions should find an answer just below.
The ENSEEIHT stands for National Polytechnic Institute of Engineering in Electrotechnology, Electronics, Computer Science, Hydraulics and Telecommunications. I'm a student of the ENSEEIHT (also called N7 because it is pronounced the same way in French) since September 2006 and I should get my Engineering Degree in June 2009. In this National Institute, there are five different specializations:
- Electrotechnology
- Electronics
- Computer Science
- Hydraulics
- Telecommunications
I am specialized in Electrotechnology. I'm learning about electricity from the production to the conversion passing by its transfer. I also have courses of Automation. " Without electricity the world would be lethargic, without automation, it would be paralyzed ". This sentence sums up quite well what I'm doing at the N7. But if I have chosen this particular specialization, it is for one clear reason, one will, one dream...
My will might change if I discover during my studies that I'm going in the wrong way, but for now, my dream is robotics. I'd like to develop robots in my future life, and why not androids? I'm found of science fiction, and particularly attracted by robots, by the fact they are totally independent, that they manage to think by themselves, to react as they must facing a problem, all this thanks to their programming. I'm really more attracted by this kind of job than by one concerning electricity. I know that I need this knowledge in electricity and all the courses I have, but I don't want to make my job of that. What I like are the logic lessons, the computer science lessons, everything which is related or could be useful to build a robot. An example for this could be a recent lesson I had concerning the electricity conversion. I found it quite boring, and I thought I'd never use it, but I was wrong. I'm in the robotics club of the N7, and recently we were thinking about a way to make sure that the robot goes straight ahead even if the two motors of its two wheels aren't functioning at the exact same speed. And the solution of this problem appeared to be somehow related to a "chopper" which I had seen one month earlier in this lesson. And that's amazing to see how I found it suddenly more interesting now that I had found a utility and moreover related to robotics. I think this proves that I'm interested in robotics. Every Thursday we try to build this robot together at the club, and I really have good time when we are thinking about the problems will have to face in the construction of this robot.
It's seven years that I learn German, and I really like this language, but this year I stopped learning it because I couldn't learn Japanese too. I had to choose between these two languages, it wasn't easy at all, but I eventually chose the Japanese. It is true that I have always wanted to learn Japanese, but I would never have stopped the German for it, but this time it is different. I've learned that I had the occasion to spend my third year of studies in Japan , and to learn humanoid robotics. This was a unique occasion, and if I want to have an opportunity to go there, I have to learn the Japanese as soon as possible. Furthermore I consider the Japanese as the reference in robotics, and this is now my goal.
Robotics is my dream, and ENSEEIHT GEA is the way to reach it.
